Cancer, Skincare & the Power of Purpose
One morning while searching through LinkedIn, I noticed a friend of mine had tagged me in on a post about cancer and skincare. The original post was posted on LinkedIn by an inspiring woman following her cancer treatment.
Karen had a vision of helping newly diagnosed cancer patients, with a quest for using clean beauty products while going through cancer treatment. And knowing from her personal experience that if you look good on the outside, you will feel good on the inside, and by getting herself ready and applying her statement lipstick, she was better equipped to tackle the day ahead. I have been working in the fashion industry for over twenty years, and while having my fashion label for the last nine years, I could not believe I hadn’t been introduced to Karen Collier before.
I’m well acquainted with long working hours and lost lunch breaks, and then in June 2018, my energy levels were so low; mirroring my morals, the changing landscape of retail was finally exhausting me. I realised something had to change, and my nutrition was the most natural choice, so a good friend and nutritionist recommended the 30 days to healthy living plan with a brand called Arbonne. I’d been using Arbonne skincare for years, so I knew all about the ethical values of the company. Arbonne’s ethos is being healthy from the inside out, dedicated to toxin-free products. Long story short after two weeks, I was flying around my studio, stopped taking Nurofen, and felt so good I began recommending it on my social platforms.
Over the past four years, I had watched Sarah’s business grow, and after due diligence, I understood the benefits of network marketing and the integrity of Arbonne, a B Corporation owned by Groupé Rocher. Sarah felt bad that I was continually passing the business over to her, so she suggested I look into the business model. I’d never considered anything other than design and pattern cutting before, so I was intrigued. I quickly realised that it was a no brainer, and I jumped on board, which has resulted in me being an Independent Consultant and business mentor taking pride in helping others discover a healthier, holistic approach to beauty with vegan, non-toxic products. I run the business alongside my design label; Darkest Star and passion projects, fashion, and well-being go hand in hand. I’m now passionate about mentoring other creatives to build a business of their own. There’s nothing better than introducing another stream of income and keeping that creative dream alive.
On meeting Karen and hearing her story of positivity, optimism, and the need to share all the crucial tips that no-one tells you about, I knew I had to help in whatever way I can. We connected straight away, both understanding the power of purpose. I’m delighted to be collaborating with Karen on her project, donating 50% of profits to cancer research.
